Hi Friends,
This past Winter, Kirkwood published a city-wide speed study, and this week I got around to writing some analysis of it. Namely, though, I wanted to make the case for a solution that the study ignored: speed / red light-light automatic enforcement cameras. If you haven't gotten the chance to read that story yet, you can do so here:

Tired of the Speeders? Turn on the Cameras.

Kirkwood has poured a tremendous amount of sweat and treasure across multiple administrations into becoming a more walkable community. And while I have nits to pick here and there, overall these efforts have been worthwhile and successful. On to a few quick hits!
Quick Hits:
  • On pg. 1 of last week's Webster-Kirkwood Times, there was a story on Kirkwood City Council's denial of the petition from Proper Cannabis to operate until 10pm, as dispensaries in other nearby municipalities are allowed to do. We allow bars to stay open until 10pm and then drive home, but we're not going to let people buy some gummies and soberly drive home at 9:30? Sounds like a short-sighted, anti-business, anti-tax revenue policy to me.
  • There are also a couple of fun events in Downtown Kirkwood this Saturday, July 19th:
    • The day kicks off with the Books & Beyond sale starting at 9:30am and running until 2pm hosted by Kirkwood Public Library
    • Then, the Peach Fest runs from 10am-12pm with Tunes at ten 10pm, peachy specials at the Farmer's Market from 10am to noon, and a sidewalk sale featuring downtown Kirkwood small businesses running from 10am to 5pm
That's it for this week! Have a great weekend, everyone!
