Hi Friends,
Some quick personal news at the top: tomorrow is my last day working at Homes and Community Renewal (HCR), the state of New York's affordable hosing agency. I will soon begin work at The Center for Public Enterprise, a think tank working on creative ways public agencies can finance and accelerate the construction of affordable housing. I don't expect any disruptions to the Gadfly production schedule; I just thought you should know!

Another quick reminder that the Kirkwood Social Justice Coalition will be hosting a Kirkwood City Council Candidate forum this Tuesday, March 10th, at 7pm at United Methodist:
On to some quick hits!
Quick Hits:
  • Last night’s P&Z agenda also had a few really exciting items:
    • First, a new market, Fox’s Finest, will be opening in the old Cotton & Clay space across Argonne from 4 Hands. The market will sell some prepared foods (think grab-and-go sandwiches) and is requesting a Special Use Permit to allow for outdoor seating in the courtyard that fronts Clay behind the space. It’s not a full-on grocery store by any means, but it strikes me as another important (if incremental) step towards achieving walkability in Downtown Kirkwood. The opening of Fox’s Finest (like Little Loft’s Play Cafe that just opened down the street) will mean that there are now just a few more trips that DTK residents won’t have to drive for, and that’s awesome.
      • The agenda also included an update that two townhomes housing projects in walkable neighborhoods we’ve been following for a while are currently being reviewed by city staff:
        • The seven townhomes known as the Maje Residences at 507 & 509 Holmes adjacent to the (delayed?) Grant’s Trail Extension
        • "At least eight" townhomes at 430 S. Clay, which was rezoned by the current Council. Who doesn't love townhomes?! We should allow more of these!
    • The only real items on tonight's Council agenda are the drafts of the City and Downtown Kirkwood SBD budgets. I haven’t analyzed the budgets too much, but they’re here if you’re so inclined. My Kirkwood Water analysis is coming soon!
    • A couple of highlights from last week’s Webster-Kirkwood Times:
      • On pg. 1, another write-up of the Taylor landmark lawsuit
      • Also beginning on pg. 1, an update on the relocation of the Public Works Site. The one thing I'd urge caution on with regards to the build-out of the new site is that AI is about to radically administrative work so I'd be very cautious on spending much in the way of city resources on office space.
      • In the Eye on Kirkwood section, a nice update on Little Mitchell Park, the Spring bulk-item pick-up schedule, and a few other city project updates
That's it for this week! Have a great weekend, everyone!
