Hi Friends,
It's a slow news week here, but as Max Weber said, politics is the strong and slow boring of hard boards, so we keep at it! A few nuggets from last week's Webster-Kirkwood Times and we'll get out of here!
Quick Hits:
  • Pg. 4, had both a nice write-up of Kirkwood's budget and an interesting piece looking at a plan to allow Kirkwood School District to partner with Webster School District. The plan would allow Kirkwood students to participate in Webster's teacher training program, an especially valuable opportunity given the partnership Webster has stuck with Webster University to utilize their virtual classroom. Seems like a great way to get more students to consider the profession and take advantage of the close relationship our two communities have. Thinking regionally leaves everyone better off.
  • Then on pg. 7, there's a story looking at Glendale's decision to try and revive their own dormant historic society rather than folding their archives into Kirkwood's much more active historic society. I'm all for letting Glendale give it a go if they think they can stand something up, but at the end of the day, Glendale should ensure that as many people can access these archives as possible. Merging with Kirkwood offered one option for achieving that goal, and it might be the best option available. Glendale history and Kirkwood history are inextricably linked.
  • Good to see a call for City Council candidates for next Spring's election in the classified section. There will be three slots on the Council up for grabs and I encourage you all to consider running for one of them! You can file as early as July 14th.
That's it for this week! Go support a local fish fry tomorrow! WKT had a great rundown of all the options available, but regardless of where you end up (or whether or not you're even Catholic), these are the types of events that build community. Have a great weekend everyone!
