It's been a busy week on the home front, so I'll keep today's letter short. Onto some Quick Hits!

- At 3 pm this past Tuesday, the City Council held a special meeting with the Missouri Public Services Commission as they continue to push for the privatization of one or both city utilities. The goal, as I understand it, is to try to get the Kirkwood Water privatization deal done ahead of the April election. I can't understand why this wouldn't be put to a public referendum
- Two big items on tonight's City Council meeting agenda:
- First, the public hearing on the city budget; should be a lively discussion!
- Second, the Council will once again consider whether to fund the overhaul of the new public works building after delaying the vote at their last meeting (as discussed on pg. 4 of last week's Webster-Kirkwood Times). I understand that the Council doesn't want to approve a bunch of spending given that the city's budget has somehow spontaneously combusted under their watch over the past two years, but I don't really get what their other option is? They already bought the new sight and slated the old site for all those apartments...
- Some more fun news from last week's WKT: Kirkwood Electric is another $1 million in the hole after a margin call from one of its suppliers. It is mind-boggling to me that this is the sort of shape we're in with a relatively strong economy at our backs, what the hell would we do if there was a recession?
- There's a meet & greet with City Council candidate Sheila Burkett this Sunday at 2pm, more details here!
